Thomas Guggeis

THOMAS GUGGEIS studied conducting in Munich and Milan. He caused an international sensation when he stepped in at short notice for Christoph von Dohnányi in the acclaimed new production of Salome at the Berlin State Opera and has held the title of Staatskapellmeister of the Berlin State Opera since 2020/21. In the 2021/22 season, productions such as Falstaff, Lohengrin, Samson et Dalila, Hansel and Gretel, Don Giovanni, Jenufa, Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor and Elektra await him in this position. This was followed by his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper with Salome and Die tote Stadt. He also conducts the latter at the Semperoper Dresden. His concert engagements include the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Frankfurt Museum Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, Essen Philharmonic, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, Bern Symphony Orchestra and the Boulez Ensemble. This will be followed by further concerts with members of the Berlin Philharmonic. Guggeis enjoyed recent successes at the Frankfurt Opera with Mozart's Requiem and Ariadne auf Naxos. The young conductor served as Kapellmeister at the Stuttgart State Opera from 2018-2020, where he has already performed such works as La Bohème, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Madama Butterfly, Der Prinz von Homburg and Der Freischütz. At the same time, he was also assistant to Daniel Barenboim at the Berlin State Opera and has since conducted performances of La Traviata, Katja Kabanova, Freischütz, Ariadne auf Naxos, Die Zauberflöte, Samson et Dalila and Salome. He conducted opera performances at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and the Kammeroper München, with which he was associated as Kapellmeister. He made his debut with a new production of Oberon at the Theater an der Wien, where he already conducted a new production of Pelléas et Mélisande as a chamber opera in 2018. In the symphonic field, he has conducted the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Swedish Radio Symphony, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, and the Munich Chamber Orchestra, among others. In addition, he has given concerts at the Tyrolean Festival in Erl, in Berlin's Boulez Hall and with the Orchestra Academy of the Staatskapelle Berlin. He is GMD-designate at the Frankfurt Opera.
