Technical management

We are looking for stage technicians (full-time) to strengthen our technical departments with immediate effect

Tasks:

  • Supervision of rehearsals and performances of musical theater productions
  • Set-up, conversion and dismantling of decorations for rehearsals and performances

Required training (or comparable qualification):

  • Completed vocational training in a woodworking profession or
  • Completed vocational training as a painter and coating technician or
  • Completed vocational training as an upholsterer/decorator
  • Completed vocational training in a metalworking profession

Requirements:

  • Technical understanding and manual dexterity
  • Absolute freedom from vertigo and a head for heights
  • Ability to work in a team, reliability and the ability to work under pressure
  • Willingness to work irregular hours (evenings, weekends, public holidays and split shifts)
  • As a male applicant: completed military or civilian service
  • Fundamental interest in musical theater and good manners
  • Very good knowledge of German
  • Willingness to work overtime and take part in guest performances abroad

The WIENER STAATSOPER is looking for an event technician - for the NEST, our new venue in the Künstlerhaus.

The position will be full-time and permanent starting in the fall.

With its national and international artists, the Vienna State Opera, the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and the Vienna State Ballet, the Vienna State Opera is one of the world's most prestigious opera houses. More than 900 employees enable a repertoire of more than 280 performances per season. In December 2024, the Vienna State Opera received a second venue. In addition to music theater for children and young people, it also hosts contemporary operas, ballet and special events. Around 100 events per season are planned, in various formats.

The following tasks await you:

  • Assistance in the planning as well as cooperation in the construction and dismantling of all types of events for the stage technology, lighting and sound technology and multimedia trades
  • Collaboration in the development of the respective production
  • Supervision of performances and events (set-up and dismantling incl. rehearsals, lighting rehearsals, sound checks, video equipment) in the event technology area to ensure a smooth technical process (operation and monitoring of various systems, such as sound systems, media technology, lighting technology, presentation technology, stage technology systems, etc.)
  • Collaboration with all event-related trades, building management, air conditioning and electrical center and, if necessary, with the decoration workshop or external providers
  • Follow-up: Preparation of event documentation together with the inventory manager
  • Collaboration in the implementation of guest performance productions and support with rentals and external events

You should have the following qualities:

  • Manual dexterity, high technical understanding, talent for improvisation
  • Good knowledge of programming ETC lighting consoles is an advantage
  • Completed training as an event technology specialist or equivalent qualification in media technology
  • Good knowledge of stage technology (e.g. knowledge of CAT5), lighting technology (ideally knowledge of ETC lighting consoles), sound and video technology, sound reinforcement technology, media technology
  • Good knowledge of playback systems and projection technology via CueLab
  • Experience in the cultural event sector
  • Stage and/or lighting technician would be an advantage
  • Pyrotechnics training an advantage
  • Knowledge of network technology/electronics an advantage
  • High level of commitment, sense of responsibility, independence and initiative
  • Communication and organizational skills, assertiveness and negotiating skills as well as enjoyment in dealing with artists and technicians
  • Willingness to work irregular hours (evenings, weekends and public holidays as well as split shifts)
  • Ability to work in a team, decisiveness, resilience and stress resistance
  • Good IT skills are an advantage (MS Office, AutoCAD)
  • Driving license B an advantage
  • Very good German and good English skills

The following tasks await you:

  • Laying the floor coverings (dance flooring for ballet performances)
  • Covering the stage floor with floor cloths
  • Assembly of all textile decoration parts attached in the stage design area
  • Repair work on these decorative elements

You should have the following qualities:

  • Manual skills and technical understanding
  • Completed apprenticeship as an upholsterer or upholsterer is an advantage
  • High level of commitment

  • Very good physical condition and resilience

  • Absolutely no fear of heights and a head for heights

To strengthen our Machinists/Displacement department, we are looking for the following with immediate effect

→ Stage technicians (f/m/d), full-time

The following tasks await you:

  • Operation of the entire understage machinery as well as turntables, functional special constructions and curtains in the stage portal, during rehearsals and performances
  • Maintenance and control of the technical stage equipment on the lower stage
  • Operating hydraulic and pneumatic systems in decoration parts
  • Screwing steel structures and stage elements to the floor and to mounted decorative elements
  • Making and repairing stage props
  • Designing performances: you enable the appearance and disappearance of people, props and stage sets by using lifting floors and lowering people
  • Implementation of stage effects such as stage fog, steam, wind, foam and water

You should have the following qualities:

  • Craftsmanship and technical understanding
  • Completed apprenticeship as a metalworker, metal technician or tinsmith is an advantage
  • Workshop experience in a metalworking company
  • Experience of working independently in a metalworking shop (cutting, drilling, bending, welding, etc.)
  • High level of commitment

  • Very good physical condition and resilience

  • Absolutely no fear of heights and a head for heights

  • Ability to work in a team, reliability and the ability to work under pressure

  • Willingness to work irregular hours (evenings, weekends, public holidays and split shifts)

Scenic service

The Vienna State Opera is looking for a person of short stature (m/f/d) for a production in the 2025/26 season.

Ballet

To strengthen our team, we are looking for a porter for the Opera School and Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera from September 2025

8 h per week (part-time); Mondays and Thursdays from 2:30 - 6:30 pm

Tasks:

  • Reception service and mediation
  • Visitor registration (keeping admission lists)
  • Telephone service
  • Supporting the students if required
  • Checking compliance with the house rules in the entrance area
  • Patrol of the building as part of the closing duty

Requirements:

  • Experience in security or porter service
  • Experience in pedagogical interaction with children and young people
  • Punctuality, reliability, helpfulness
  • Enjoy working with children and young people
  • Good knowledge of German (written and spoken), knowledge of English (conversational)
  • Impeccable criminal record

Remuneration is based on the collective agreement for employees in the entire area of the Bundestheater. For the advertised position, this amounts to € 518.15 gross per month (marginal).
