Mobility-impaired

As a historic and listed building, the Vienna State Opera does not offer ideal structural conditions for accessibility everywhere. It is therefore a particular concern of ours to enable visitors with restricted mobility to attend performances smoothly.

Wheelchair spaces:

Unfortunately, the Vienna State Opera does not offer ideal conditions for accessibility due to its historical structure. Nevertheless, it is important to us to enable visitors with limited mobility can attend performances without any problems. Barrier-free access to the building is on the Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz side. Your seats are accessible by lift and barrier-free toilets are available.
Please contact us if you need assistance.

As we have a limited contingent of wheelchair places - 4 in the stalls and up to 18 in the gallery - these must be pre-booked in writing at the same time as registration. Wheelchair users who are already registered can also book wheelchair seats online. Pre-bookings and registration can be made via our Service Centre.

Concessions:

Tickets at a 50% discount can be pre-ordered in writing, by telephone or in person from one week before the performance on presentation of a disabled person's ID card at the time of initial booking. The accompanying person receives a 50% discount as well, provided that the need is noted on the disabled person's ID. (There must be a disability of at least 50%).

The barrier-free access to the building is located at Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz at the beginning of the arcades (swinging door 87 cm wide).

You can reach the orchestra stalls (»Parkett«) level and the access to the lift to the gallery via the inclined lift in the area of Café Oper Wien. From there the lift to the balcony is directly accessible (width 95 cm, depth 140 cm, clearance 80 cm). Both lifts are serviced by ushers. On both levels there are cloakrooms, snack bars and disabled toilets.

From the »Best in Parking« underground car park at Kärnterstrasse (with 2 disabled parking spaces) there is a lift to Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz. The passage from the garage into the opera house is opened at the time of admission, which is usually one hour before the event begins. After the end of the event, as soon as the house is empty, this door is closed again.

Disabled parking spaces are currently available at Helmut Zilk Platz 1 and at Walfischgasse No 1 and No 6.

Assistance dogs permitted.

Unfortunately, no barrier-free tours can be offered at the moment.
