Thomas Lang, born in Stuttgart in 1958, studied school music, vocal arts and musicology at the University of Music at the Stuttgart as well as the University Tübingen. After that he completed his capellmeister studies with Thomas Ungar. Already as a student Thomas Lang took over the direction of several choires in Stuttgart and environs. In 1988 he was engaged permanently at the theatres of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck; where he initially worked as soloist répétiteur, later as choir director and capellmeister. Thomas Lang was also in charge of the concert series „Concerts for Children“ in Lübeck, performed by the city´s Philharmonic Orchestra. Furthermore, he took on a lectureship for conducting at the local University of Music. In 1999 he changed to the Hessische Staatstheater Wiesbaden as choir director, where he stayed for seven years. Since 2006 Thomas Lang has been choir director at the Wiener Staatsoper. That same year he was invited to the Salzburger Feststpiele for the first time and has since then been in charge of the Konzertvereinigung Wiener Staatsopernchor in all its productions in the Großes Festspielhaus. He regularly collaborates with renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Bertrand de Billy, Zubin Metha, Ricardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Christian Thielemann and many more. His opera and concert repertoire comprises more than one hundred works.
