Stefano Montanari

One of the most outstanding baroque violinists of his generation, Stefano Montanari is now much in demand as a conductor with both modern and period orchestras. Stefano Montanari was nominated for a Grammy Award for his recording of Purcell’s »O Solitude« with Andreas Scholl for Decca. His recording of Bach’s »Sonatas and Partitas« was published for the Italian music magazine Amadeus. Stefano Montanari is Principal Director of the »Jugendspodium Dresden-Venice« project. He wrote the »Baroque Violin method”« published by Carisch. M° Montanari teaches Baroque Violin at the International Academy of Music in Milan and he also teached at the »E.V. Dall’Abaco« Music Conservatory in Verona. He regularly conducts in theatres such as: La Fenice in Venice; Opera in Rome and Terme of Caracalla, Donizetti Theatre in Bergamo; Opéra de Lyon; Arena and Filarmonico in Verona;  Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; San Carlo in Naples; Royal Opera House in London; Dutsch National Opera in Amsterdam; Bolshoj in Moscow and Tchaikovsky Concert Hall; Stuttgart Opera; and series of concerts with La Verdi Orchestra, Ravenna Festival, I Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra, Filarmonica in Turin, Edinburgh Festival, Warsaw Philharmonic in Warsaw; Stuttgart Opera; Opéra de Géneve. Recent egagements include: »Agrippina« and »La clemenza di Tito« in Anversa; »Le nozze di Figaro« (new production by Graham Vick) at the Opera in Rome; »Die lustige Witwe« (new production by Damiano Michieletto) and »Il barbiere di Siviglia« in Venice; »Don Giovanni« in Lyon and in Moscow; »Mosè in Egitto« at the San Carlo in Naples; »La cenerentola« at the Edimburgh Festival and in Rome; »Iphigenie en Tauride« in Stuttgart; »Così fan tutte« at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London; »Rinaldo« with Il Pomo d’Oro Orchestra in Tour in Europe (Paris, Brussels, Karlsruhe); »Brandeburgische Konzerte« in Lyon. Stefano Montanari regularly collaborates and records with jazz saxophonist, clarinetist and composer Gianluigi Trovesi.
