Ido Arad

The Israeli conductor Ido Arad, who lives in Germany, studied classical guitar at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf and conducting, majoring in piano, with Prof Lutz Köhler at the Berlin University of the Arts.

Earlier stages of his career included the Mittelsächsisches Theater Freiberg and the Stadttheater Bremerhaven, where he held the position of 1st Kapellmeister and Deputy General Music Director. His repertoire during these years includes operas such as TannhäuserLa BohèmeRusalka, L’elisir dʼamore and numerous symphony concert programs. Guest conducting engagements have taken him to the Münster Theatre, Freiburg Theatre and the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau. In 2017, he conducted Richard Straussʼ Salome in a new production by Brigitte Fassbaender.

In the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons, Ido Arad was Kapellmeister and assistant to General Music Director Donald Runnicles at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he conducted performances of Carmen, Die Zauberflöte, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Un ballo in maschera, Don Carlo, La Traviata and Meyerbeerʼs Les Huguenots, among others. Since this time, he has also worked closely with the Staatsballett Berlin, for example on Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Onegin, The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Le Sacre du Printemps and Petrushka.

Guest conducting engagements in opera and concert have also taken him to the Teatro Massimo Palermo, the Semperoper Dresden and the Salzburg State Theatre as well as to the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Filarmonica George Enescu, the Philharmonic Orchestra Cottbus and the Philharmonie Südwestfalen.

Ido Arad will make his debut with the Vienna State Ballet at the Volksoper Wien in the 2023/24 season with the musical direction of the ballet program Les Sylphides.
