Guided tours

Special insights and outlooks

Take a glimpse behind the scenes of the world’s largest repertoire theatre and discover many things that remain hidden from the evening audience. On this approximately 40-minute tour, you will hear many interesting facts about the building’s history, its architecture and how an opera house is run. From the foyer, we take the grand staircase to the state rooms (Tea Salon, Marble Hall, Schwind Foyer, Gustav Mahler Hall) before we reach the auditorium (catching a look at the stage).

Our guided visits are offered in German and English at all indicated times. Reservations are not necessary for individuals.

Corona measures:

For guided tours of the Vienna State Opera, a certificate of being recovered or vaccinated is required from the age of 12 - this must be shown on entering the building.

Due to the »recovered or vaccinated« regulation, FFP2 masks are mandatory for the entire duration of the tour.

Recovered means the presentation of a medical certificate or a certificate of segregation stating that the COVID-19 disease has been overcome and that it did not occur more than 180 days ago. (Proof of neutralising antibodies is no longer valid from November 8, 2021). For people who have already recovered and have been vaccinated once, the vaccination is valid for 360 days from the day of vaccination until 7 November, and for 270 days from 6 December.
Vaccinated means that the second COVID-19 partial vaccination must have taken place no longer than 360 days ago, and from 6 December no longer than 270 days ago. In the case of vaccines with only one vaccination (for example Johnson & Johnson), the COVID-19 vaccination must not have been given more than 270 days previously.

Access testing for children: An admission test for children is required for ages 6 and older. For children under 12, a PCR test is 72 hours valid and antigen test 48 hours.

The ticket is also valid on the day of the tour as a voucher for €0.70 in the Gerstner Café in our opera foyer.
