The German tenor GERHARD SIEGEL began his musical career as an instrumentalist and composer. After studying singing, he became a member of the ensemble in Trier. After an engagement as a feature and lyric tenor in Dessau and guest performances in Germany, Bulgaria, Holland and Spain, he was engaged in Augsburg and made his debut at the Bavarian State Opera in 1998. From 1999-2006 he was a member of the ensemble in Nuremberg, where he was able to expand his repertoire, especially in the dramatic and heroic tenor field. Here he sang Parsifal, Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos), Herodes (Salome), Florestan (Fidelio), Laca (Jenůfa), Sergej (Lady Macbeth von Mzensk), Mephistopheles (Doktor Faust von Busoni), Tom Rakewell (The Rake's Progress) but also Alfredo (La traviata). He was particularly celebrated in his debut as Stolzing (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) and in the title role of Siegfried. He has been a freelance singer since 2006. His central roles today include Mime (Das Rheingold, Siegfried), Herod, Midas (Love of Danae), Schuiskij (Boris Godunow), Hauptmann (Wozzeck). He is a regular guest at the New York Met, the Salzburg Festival, the ROH Covent Garden in London, the Bavarian State Opera, Dresden, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, Chicago, Zurich and Stuttgart, among others. At the Vienna State Opera he has sung Bacchus, Herod, and both Mime, among others.
