Lothar Koenigs

The conductor LOTHAR KOENIGS, born in Aachen, is one of the most prominent conductors of the operatic repertoire. From 2009 to 2016, he served as Music Director of the Welsh National Opera, where he achieved great success with works from the 19th and 20th centuries, including Khovanshchina, Fidelio, Tristan und Isolde, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, and Lohengrin. During this time, guest engagements also took him to the BBC Proms, the Edinburgh Festival, and the ROH Covent Garden. Recently, he conducted Lulu and La clemenza di Tito at the Metropolitan Opera, Tristan und Isolde, Capriccio, Wozzeck, Ariadne auf Naxos, and Der Freischütz at the Bavarian State Opera, Elektra in Zurich, Moses und Aron at the Teatro Real in Madrid, as well as Daphne, Capriccio, and Die tote Stadt at the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels.

In addition to these venues, he has also performed at the Vienna State Opera, La Scala in Milan, the Semperoper, Oper Frankfurt, the Opéra National in Lyon, Den Norske Opera Oslo, and the Royal Opera House in Copenhagen.

His repertoire spans from Mozart to Berg, with a focus on the works of Wagner, Strauss, and Janáček.
