Opera and ballet for school classes

Productions, rehearsal visits and accompanying workshops

Making opera and ballet accessible to young people - creatively, at eye level and with room for individual approaches. Arousing curiosity, encouraging enthusiasm and creating spaces in which pupils can actively experience music theater, dance and the repertoire of the Vienna State Opera - in the auditorium as well as in the classroom.

In addition to attending a performance, we also offer participation in a dress or stage rehearsal as well as introductions to works and educational theater workshops. In these workshops, pupils explore music, plot or dance aesthetics in a variety of ways - through scenic play, making music together and improvisation. We ask the question: What does this have to do with you and me? How can we build bridges to our own world? This creates personal and lasting perspectives on opera and ballet.

As a school class, it is possible to attend performances of our repertoire, dress rehearsals of current new productions and stage rehearsals at a reduced school group price. We also offer special dates for school classes in our new venue, NEST.

A performance visit can - after registration - also be combined with one of our free workshops.

What is special about an opera production? Or what characterizes the movement language of a choreography? In preparatory or follow-up educational theater workshops, students creatively explore the plot, themes, music or dance aesthetics of an opera or ballet and get to know the respective work even better through scenic play, making music together and improvisation.

The educational theater workshops can be flexibly adapted to the level of knowledge of the school class in consultation with the teacher. A workshop can be booked free of charge in connection with the booking of a performance and lasts 90 minutes. It takes place at the respective school.
