Opera Choir Academy | Vienna State Opera

The Vienna State Opera Chorus Academy was founded in 2014 to provide young singers with practical training after their studies.

The focus is on performing as in the chorus at the Vienna State Opera and preparing for a professional career as an opera chorus singer. It is also possible to join the Chorus Academy after a first degree.

Tasks of the Academy

Supporting and reinforcing.

Together with the Extrachor and the Chorus of the Vienna State Opera, the Chorus Academy takes to the stage when the production requires a particularly large chorus. The academy members also take on the main responsibility for the chorus performances in selected works.

After the Academy

Successful graduates of the Chorus Academy not only work in the chorus of the Vienna State Opera, but often also in choruses of various international opera houses.

Some graduates also pursue careers as soloists.

The education at the Chorus Academy deepens and expands the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies by rehearsing chorus parts in full and individual rehearsals, in staged rehearsals and, above all, by regularly taking part in performances on the stage of the Vienna State Opera.

The academy students thus gain intensive professional experience as singers in the opera chorus. They also continue to be coached as soloists and receive support at all times in preparing for competitions and auditions.
