If you feel a great longing for the opera house on the Ring, you can visit the "State Opera Sunday" at the film festival on Vienna's Rathausplatz or take one of our guided tours. Events that have little or nothing to do with the regular opera schedule still take place during the summer, as the Vienna State Opera has been a very popular venue for many decades and is rented by a wide variety of event organizers.
We would like to give you an overview of our summer rentals here:
Intermezzo. The summer festival of humor
It all starts with INTERMEZZO from July 1-12, the new summer festival of humor. Last year the festival took place for the first time with great success, this year it will be continued from July 1 to 12. The line-up includes greats from the cabaret and comedy scene and an exceptional musician: Andreas Vitásek (1.7.), Omar Sarsam (2.7.), Gery Seidl (3.7.), Hazel Brugger (4.7.), Klaus Eckel (6.7.), Thomas Stipsits (7.7.), Toxische Pommes (8.7.), Lukas Resetarits (9.7.), Chilly Gonzales (10.7.), Alfred Dorfer (11.7.) and Gernot Kulis (12.7.). To celebrate the community, the diversity and the potential of the industry, INTERMEZZO will also be presenting up-and-coming support acts alongside the audience favorites for the first time: Ina Jovanovic (1.7.), Salon Spontan (2.7.), Michaela Obertscheider (3.7.), Alex Stoldt (4.7.), Christina Kiesler (6.7.), Chrissi Buchmasser (7.7.), Romeo Kaltenbrunner (8.7.), Maria Muhar (9.7.), Anna Mabo (11.7.) and Julia Brandner (12.7.).

20 years of Monti Beton & Hans Krankl - anniversary concert at the Vienna State Opera
A special anniversary is coming up on July 5: the legendary Viennese band Monti Beton and the Austrian soccer icon Hans Krankl, also known as Johann K., are celebrating their 20th anniversary on stage in 2025 - a success story that combines the worlds of music and sport in an inimitable way. The anniversary will culminate in a spectacular concert on July 5, 2025 at the Vienna State Opera.

Rock the Opera
Rock the Opera has been a regular guest at the opera house for several years now : the best rock hits will be remixed in the monumental setting of the Vienna State Opera with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and outstanding voices and band on August 15 and 16. Conductor Friedemann Riehle achieves the impossible: A perfect combination of classical music and rock. The transmissions and interpretations combine the atmosphere and power of the original songs with a unique passion and the great sound of the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra are considered groundbreaking among rock fans.
Mozart concerts
From August 18-23 and 25-30, the Vienna Mozart Orchestra will be a guest at the Vienna State Opera with an exclusive concert series. In period costumes and with an authentic sound, the orchestra will present the most famous works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as well as selected compositions by the Strauss dynasty. The orchestra, which consists of 33 musicians, performs in period costumes and offers an authentic concert experience in the style of Viennese classical music with international soloists. Ideal for visitors to Vienna who want to experience music, culture and history in one place.

Thommy Ten & Amélie van Tass: Magic in Vienna
After their great success in summer 2024, Thommy Ten & Amélie van Tass return to the Vienna State Opera on 24 August for two exclusive shows and present their acclaimed program Magic in Vienna. They have set out in search of famous magicians and magicians in Vienna, which was considered the world capital of magic in the fin de siècle, and are bringing their legendary tricks back to the stage.
ImPulsTanz as a guest at NEST
We would also like to draw your attention to a wonderful cooperation at our second venue, NEST in the Künstlerhaus am Karlsplatz. For the first time and in the very first summer after its opening, ImPulsTanz will be a guest at NEST.
From July 12 to August 10, a total of seven productions will be shown there - four of them by Austrian artists.
The ImPulsTanz-Classic deep dish by the internationally successful company Liquid Loft under the direction of Chris Haring will kick things off. Choreographer Elisabeth Bakambamba Tambwe presents a world premiere with SelFist. Matteo Haitzmann also brings a breath of fresh air to NEST - with his piece Make it Count, he opens this year's [8:tension] program for young choreographers and stands for the new generation in contemporary dance.
And let's not forget the Bulgarian performer and festival favorite Ivo Dimchev. In Crime Buddy, he invites the audience to commit a crime with style, because: 'Art is a crime. I refuse to commit it alone.
