Artists with state opera stage experience

The whole country is talking about Johannes Pietsch, alias JJ. His victory and his voice - "opera pop" was mentioned several times. But who is JJ and how is JJ's career actually connected to the Vienna State Opera?

The Austrian-Filipino singer was born in Vienna, but grew up with his family in Dubai, where he attended the German International School and therefore speaks fluent German, English, Tagalog and French. When Johannes Pietsch was 15 years old, the family moved back to Vienna.

From casting shows to the opera stage

After leaving school, the musician started his career - as a participant in casting shows such as "The Voice UK" or as a finalist in the ORF casting show "Starmania". His vocal range is that of a classical countertenor, i.e. the highest male singing voice. He continued to develop this range and attended the Vienna State Opera's opera school, where he performed several times in the youth choir and in smaller roles. in 2023, he began his studies at the Music and Arts University of Vienna (MUK), where he studied solo singing with Linda Watson.

He appeared at the State Opera in the fall of 2022 in the Gustav Mahler project Von der Liebe Tod, as well as in supporting roles in Macbeth, Billy Budd and Tschick. JJ performed a specially composed song at the opening gala of the second venue NEST - Neue Staatsoper. Most recently, he appeared on stage at the Haus am Ring as the 1st Boy in the premiere of the new Magic Flute.
