Xabier Anduaga was born in 1995 in San Sebastian, where he started singing in the Orfeón Donostiarra Choir. Already in his childhood, he sang as a soloist in sacred music concerts, and studied at the Centro Superior de Música in the Basque Region. His deep interest in the operatic repertoire led him to focus his studies on the vocal technique with Elena Barbé, who is still his teacher. He also followed master classes held by Alberto Zedda, Ernesto Palacio, Eytan Pessen, Giulio Zappa, Ana Luisa Chova, Maciej Pikulski and Juan Diego Flórez. In 2016 he was chosen to be part of the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro, where he made his operatic debut as Belfiore in Rossini's Il Viaggio a Reims. In the first years of his career he debuted many Rossinian roles and he started to enter the world of belcanto by appearing on the most important stages worldwide, such as Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, Festival Donizetti di Bergamo, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Vienna Musikverein, Müpa Budapest, Opéra National de Paris, Hamburg State Opera, Beijing Opera, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Real in Madrid, ABAO Olbe, Palau de Les Arts in Valencia. In 2019 he was named First Prize winner of the Operalia Singing Competition, both in the general category and in the Zarzuela category. Other prizes include an International Opera Award 2021 as Best Young Singer, an Ópera XXI Award 2021 as Best Young, an Ópera Actual Award 2021 and RNE's El Ojo Critico Award. In the recent seasons Anduaga made his house debuts at the Metropolitan Opera (Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore), the Royal Opera House and the Gran Teatro del Liceu (Ernesto in Don Pasquale), he sang I puritani and Così fan tutte at ABAO Olbe in Bilbao, returned to Teatro Real (as Gerald in Lakmé and Elvino in La sonnambula), to Teatro di San Carlo (Il barbiere di Siviglia and I puritani) and to Opera Las Palmas (Lucia di Lammermoor), and he made his role debut as Lord Percy in Anna Bolena at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
