Petra Maria Schnitzer
PETRA MARIA SCHNITZER was born in Vienna. She studied at the Mozarteum Salzburg and at the Vienna Musikhochschule and was a member of the Opera studio of the Wiener Staatsoper. In 1993, she became a prize-winner at the renowned Francisco Vinas Competition in Barcelona. In 1995, Petra Maria Schnitzer gave her debut as Agathe (Der Freischütz) at the Wiener Staatoper. Parts followed like Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro), Ilia (Idomeneo), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Micaela (Carmen), Leonore (Fidelio), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Freia (Das Rheingold), Gutrune (Götterdämmerung) and Elsa (Lohengrin). Further engagements have led and are leading the artist to the Salzburg Festival, the Bavarian Staatsoper, the Wiener Festwochen, the Dresden Musikfestspielen, the Bayreuth Festival, to Antwerp, Berlin, Munich, Zurich the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, to Venice, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Valencia and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Aside from her opera duties, she is also dedicated to concert and Lied singing.
