Petra Lang
PETRA LANG is considered one of the world’s leading Wagner interpreters. After starting out as a lyrical mezzosoprano, she turned towards dramatic roles, and her portrayals of Wagner’s Brangäne, Kundry, Venus, Sieglinde, Ortrud, Bartók’s Judith, Berg’s Marie, Berlioz’ Cassandre and Strauss’ Ariadne have made her a sought-after artist. She has e.g. sung Isolde in Bayreuth, Munich and Vienna, and Ring cycle’s Brünnhilde at Semperoper Dresden, Vienna State Opera and Grand Théâtre de Genève, as well as in Bamberg, Berlin, Budapest, Bucharest, Dortmund, Lucerne, Munich, Paris, Stuttgart and Tokyo. She has sung at leading opera houses on both sides of the Atlantic and at festivals in Salzburg, Bregenz, Edinburgh and Bayreuth (Brangäne, Ortrud and Isolde). Born in Frankfurt, Petra Lang completed her violin studies at university before taking up vocal studies, and she teaches with equally great passion. At Vienna State Opera, she has so far sung Fricka, Brünnhilde, Waltraute (Götterdämmerung), Ortrud, Kundry and Brangäne.
