Peter Mattei

PETER MATTEI was born in Sweden and received his musical training at the Royal Academy of Music at the University College of Stockholm. In 1990, he gave his debut as Nardo in La finta giardiniera in Drottningholm and developed himself to one of the most in demand baritones. Numerous engagements have led him among others to the New York Metropolitan Opera, the Opéra National de Paris, the Bayerische Staatsoper, the San Francisco Opera, the Milan Scala, the Zurich Opera house, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, the Bolshoi in Moscow and the Salzburger Festival. His roles up to now include among others Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia and Le nozze di Figaro), Billy Budd, Wolfram, Amfortas, Eugen Onegin, Jeletzki, Don Giovanni, Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Posa (Don Carlo) and Schischkow (Aus einem Totenhaus). Aside from performances in the big opera houses, Peter Mattei is a succesful concert singer, and has appeared on numerous recordings. In 2009, he founded the Mattei Festival in Luleå, northern Sweden. At the Wiener Staatsoper, he has already sung Don Giovanni and Eugen Onegin.
