Natalie Dessay

Her prowess as both a singer and an actress has made NATALIE DESSAY one of the most sought-after performers world-wide. She has been phenomenally successful with her extensive repertoire ranging from belcanto to dramatic coloratura parts. Originally she intended to become a dancer, but then she perfected the art of singing and dancing at Bordeaux Conservatory. In 1992 she first performed as Olympia in Paris. Shortly after that she sang the same part in Lyon and at Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Among her most celebrated roles internationally are the Queen of the Night, Ophélia, Mélisande, Violetta, Aminta, Fiakermilli, Zerbinetta, Lakmé, Eurydice, Morgana, Manon, Marie, and Lucia di Lammermoor. In 1993 she debuted at Vienna State Opera as Blondchen. The same year, she sang Olympia in Vienna State Opera’s premiere of Les Contes d’Hoffmann. She has since appeared here in repertoire performances (Rosenkavalier-Sophie, Zerbinetta, Amina) as well as new productions (Aminta, Queen of the Night, Fille du Régiment, Violetta). In 2010 she received the honorary title of Austrian Kammersängerin.
