Recent operatic highlights have included. Sarastro at the ROH Covent Garden and the Bavarian State Opera, Comtur (Don Giovanni) at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and at the Salzburg Festival in 2016 and 2021, Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra) at the Paris Opéra, King Marke (Tristan und Isolde), Padre Guardiano (La forza del destino) and Balthazar (La Favorite) at the Bavarian State Opera, Gremin (Eugene Onegin) at the Vienna State Opera, Hermann (Tannhäuser) in Zurich, Zaccaria (Nabucco) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Inquisitor (The Fiery Angel) at the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Grand Inquisitor (Don Carlo) at La Scala in Milan and Ramfis (Aida) in Brussels. In 2022/23 he took on the title role in Duke Bluebeard's Castle at the Salzburg Festival, among others, and appeared as Fasolt, Hunding, Hagen in the new Ring at the Berlin State Opera.
