Michael Güttler

Born in Dresden, Michael Güttler began his international career by conducting Parsifal several times at Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, until he became a guest conductor at many of the world's leading theatres and orchestras, including Teatro alla Scala in Milan where he made his debut in 2023 with Salome.

Some of the most important theatres he has conducted at include Opera National de Paris, Teatro Real de Madrid, Washington National Opera, New National Theatre in Tokyo, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro San Carlo in Naples. 

From 2003 to 2017, he was a regular guest conductor at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg and he was nominated several times for the Russian theatre prize “Golden Mask” as best conductor. Until 2017, he was also Principal Conductor at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki.

Recent highlights include Tannhäuser at Müpa Budapest, Kàt'a Kabanovà at Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège, the Wagner’s Ring and Lohengrin at May Festival in Wiesbaden. 

He gave his debut performance at the Vienna State Opera in 2010 with Rigoletto and has made regular appearances here ever since, with an extremely wide repertoire, from Il barbiere di Siviglia and La Cenerentola, to Ariadne auf Naxos, Werther or Lohengrin.
