Markus Marquardt

Born in Dusseldorf, bass-baritone MARKUS MARQUARDT has established himself as one of the most sought-after interpreters of the German helden roles and also of the Italian repertoire. He studied at the university of music of his home town Düsseldorf and was first permanently engaged from 1996 to 2000 at Staatsoper Stuttgart. Since 2000 he has been an ensemble member of Semperoper Dresden. He has also sung at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, in Naples, Leipzig, Tokyo, Amsterdam and Lyon. Most recently, he has sung Wotan (Rheingold, Siegfried), Jochanaan, Tonio, Alfio, Rigoletto, Iago, Peter Besenbinder, Créon (Oedipus rex) in Dresden, Nabucco, Amfortas, Scarpia in Stuttgart, Peasant (Gurrelieder) at Dutch National Opera, Scarpia at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. His future engagements include Pizarro, Leporello, Peter Besenbinder in Dresden, Höllander at Wiener Volksoper and Jochanaan in Cologne. At Vienna State Opera, he has sung the title role in Cardillac, Jochanaan, Amonasro, Don Fernando, Jaroslav Prus (Vec Makropulos).
