Marcus Bluhm

Marcus Bluhm completed his acting studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Hamburg. In 1988, Hans Neuenfels engaged him at the Freie Volksbühne in Berlin. This was followed by an engagement at the Hamburg Schauspielhaus, where he appeared as Romeo in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

In 1992, under the direction of Hans Neuenfels at the Burgtheater in Vienna, he played Count von Strahl in Kleist’s Das Käthchen von Heilbronn and was subsequently engaged by Claus Peymann for the remaining seven years of his directorship at the Burgtheater.

From 1999 onward, Marcus Bluhm worked as a freelance actor, performing at the Schauspielhaus Zürich (Switzerland), the Burgtheater Vienna, the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, the Residenztheater Munich, and the St. Pauli Theater in Hamburg, among others. His roles have included the title role in Mephisto after Klaus Mann, as well as appearances in Kabale und Liebe, Don Carlos, Noises Off, and, in 2023, as Estragon in Waiting for Godot at the Theater in der Josefstadt.

In 2013, he received the Rolf Mares Award for his portrayal of George VI in The King’s Speech at the St. Pauli Theater.

Marcus Bluhm is currently a member of the permanent ensemble at the Theater in der Josefstadt. In the current season, he makes his debut at the Vienna State Opera as Bassa Selim in Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
