JOSÉ CURA was born in Argentina and began his career as a composer and conductor. He decided on a career in singing in Italy where he gave his debut in 1993 in Turin. He celebrated his breakthrough in 1994 as Loris (Fedora) alongside Mirella Freni at the Lyric Opera in Chicago. Since then,  he has performed at all important international opera houses, for example among others, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Pariser Oper, at the Ravenna Festival, in Hamburg, Los Angeles and San Francisco, the Milan Scala, the New York Metropolitan Opera, in Berlin, Zürich, Barcelona, Madrid, Washington, Palermo and Tokyo. In addition to his wide-ranging performances as a singer, José Cura also works as a director and stage designer, as well as a conductor. He gave his debut at the House on the Ring in 1996 as Cavaradossi and since then has played the roles of Loris, Don José, Don Carlo, Otello, Andrea Chénier, Stiffelio, Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut) Turiddu (Cavalleria rusticana), Canio (Pagliacci), Roberto (Le villi), Cavaradossi, Jean (Hérodiade) Dick Johnson (La fanciulla del West) and as the conductor of Madama Butterfly. He is an Austrian kammersänger.
