François Menou
Frenchman François Menou holds a Métiers d'Art diploma in lighting design and is a young French lighting designer. His work includes lighting concepts for theatre, dance and opera. From an early age, he was fascinated by light – its moods, atmospheres and transformations – and began experimenting with it and shaping it.
Along the way, he encountered the work of Étienne Dousselin and later Dominique Bruguière, with whom he collaborated for several years in France and abroad.
Today, he regularly designs lighting concepts for productions by Marc Paquien, Macha Makeïeff, Juliette Deschamps, Louis Arène, Charles Templon and others.
In March 2018, he collaborated with Benjamin Lazar for the first time on Phaéton, followed in November of the same year by his first collaboration with Thierry Malandain on the ballet Marie Antoinette.
He is passionate about all forms of artistic creation – from classical to contemporary, in theatre, dance, opera, painting and photography. He has been particularly influenced by the works of Robert Wilson, Claude Régy, Patrice Chéreau, Pina Bausch, Jiří Kylián and Carolyn Carlson.
