David Butt Philip
David Butt Philip is one of the most exciting British tenors of his generation and has conquered the international stages within a remarkably short period of time.
Highlights of the 2025/26 season include his debut as Siegmund (Die Walküre) at La Scala in Milan, Florestan at the Vienna State Opera, and Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos) at the Glyndebourne Festival. Further highlights this season are his debut as the Prince (Rusalka) at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm and his return as Apollo (Daphne) to Seattle Opera.
On the concert platform, his engagements include Das Lied von der Erde at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Spain. He also sings Erik in concert performances of Der fliegende Holländer, Gurre-Lieder, and appears in a song recital with James Baillieu at the Tokyo Spring Festival, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at the Royal Albert Hall, Florestan in a concert with The Cleveland Orchestra, Mahler’s Eighth Symphony with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Bacchus in a concert performance with the orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, and The Dream of Gerontius with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Centre.
At the Vienna State Opera, he made his debut in 2022 as Laca (Jenůfa) and has since appeared there as Apollo (Daphne), Don José (Carmen), Walther von Stolzing in a new production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, and in the title role of a new production of Lohengrin.
