Christian Natter
Christian Natter was born in Essen, Germany, and hails from the Ruhr region. After finishing school, he spent a year working on a social project in Brazil. The impressions he gained there, as well as his involvement in a theatre production with young people, proved decisive for his artistic career.
His first theatre engagements as a freelance actor in the Ruhr area included performances at Theater Courage and the Studiobühne in Bottrop, Germany. His first collaboration with Hans Neuenfels took place in 2008 with Tannhäuser at the Aalto Theatre in Essen. Later that same year, he appeared in the premiere of La traviata by Giuseppe Verdi at the Komische Oper Berlin.
In 2009, he appeared in Proserpina by Wolfgang Rihm at the Schwetzingen Festival, which was awarded “World Premiere of the Year.” Another collaboration followed in 2012 with La finta giardiniera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the Staatsoper im Schiller Theater Berlin.
He then became a member of the ensemble at the Berlin author’s theatre theater 89 for four years, performing leading roles in Ansichten eines Clowns by Heinrich Böll, Hašeks Heimkehr by Erik Henry Sanders, Rheinsberg by Kurt Tucholsky, and Wer ist die Waffe, wo ist der Feind by Oliver Bukowski.
In 2018, he reunited with Hans Neuenfels for another opera production, Salome, at the Staatsoper Berlin, where he has since portrayed the role of Oscar Wilde.
Alongside his stage work, Natter has consistently pursued a career in film, appearing in the adaptation of Feuchtgebietedirected by David Wnendt, the improvised film Das Floß!—which received multiple awards at the Achtung Berlin Festival—Die Hannas directed by Julia C. Kaiser, and one of the leading roles in the feature film Maybe, Baby! directed by Julia Becker.
He has also appeared in television films for ARD and ZDF, including Über den Tag hinaus and Nele in Berlin, as well as in leading episodic roles in Morden im Norden (ARD), SOKO Hamburg, and Letzte Spur Berlin (ZDF).
