Anna Buchenhorst

Anna Buchenhorst grew up in the north of Sweden where she started playing the piano at an early age. She graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree under Professor Stella Tjajkovski at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg, followed by studies in piano and chamber music at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest with Professor Márta Gulyás. Having attended a series of masterclasses as well as private studies with Peter Feuchtwanger in London, she consolidated her studies with a course in classical piano improvisation at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.
In 2002 she was engaged both as orchestral and rehearsal pianist at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm and was a soloist in several performances with the Royal Court Orchestra in Stockholm, including piano concerts by Piotr I. Tchaikovsky, Dmitri Shostakovich, Francis Poulenc and Bohuslav Martinů. For the past thirty years she has played in a piano duo with Swedish pianist Per Rundberg with whom she has performed numerous concerts throughout Europe. She has toured the USA and Asia with the Royal Swedish Ballet. Furthermore, she has collaborated with the Royal Danish Ballet and famous choreographers, ballet masters and dancers such as John Neumeier, Mats Ek, Dame Beryl Grey, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Nicolas Le Riche, Igor Zelensky and Sergei Polunin. Conductors she has worked with include Daniel Harding, Leif Segerstam and Josep Caballé Domenech. Anna Buchenhorst's work is documented in recordings for radio and television as well as in Jeff L. Lieberman's film »The amazing Nina Simone«.
In the 2018/19 season she joined the Bavarian State Ballet as a ballet pianist, since the 2022/23 season she has held the same position with the Vienna State Ballet.
