About the symposium

To mark the 190th anniversary of the death of Vincenzo Bellini (1801-1835), the Vienna State Opera and the Institute of Musicology at the University of Vienna are organizing the symposium The operatic oeuvre of Vincenzo Bellini: "Lirico puro" or "uomo di teatro"? from 31 October to 2 November 2025.

Each of Bellini's ten operas will be the subject of a separate introduction, including image and sound sequences, which corresponds to the current state of research and at the same time represents an invitation to the generally interested public to become (more) familiar with Bellini's operatic oeuvre as a whole.
