About the training

Ballet training at the Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera lasts 8 years and is completed with a diploma.

In addition to classical ballet training, the Ballet Academy also has its own youth company.

In the 2025/2026 school year, girls and boys in years 1 - 8 will have classes from Monday to Friday, and girls and boys in years 7 - 8 will also have classes on Saturdays.

Ballet Education

For the 2025/26 School Year

Children between the ages of 9 and 10 who will be in the 4th grade of elementary school in the 2025/2026 school year will be admitted after an internal consultation and pre-selection by a committee and the management of the Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera.
The selected applicants will be invited in writing to the entrance examination at the Ballet Academy.
The registration fee of €80 is only payable by the invited candidates. Please refer to the application form for the 1st class for all further information regarding the application documents.

Admission from the 2nd grade onwards takes place via a private audition, which takes place in the form of several days of classes and corresponds to the age and performance level of the applicants.
An invitation to the private audition will only be issued if the application documents have been submitted in full, the processing fee of €95 has been paid and the management of the Ballet Academy, together with the committee, has made a positive pre-selection. The selected applicants will then be personally invited by the management of the Ballet Academy. Please refer to the application form for further information.

The school fees for students at the Ballet Academy are:

The Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera offers preparatory courses for 3rd and 4th grade elementary school students.

We are looking for young people with a passion for dance who are currently in the 3rd or 4th grade of elementary school and are interested in ballet training.

When?

For dancers who are 8 years old by 1 September: Monday and Thursday, 17:10-18:10


For dancers who are 9 years old by 1 September: Wednesday and Friday, 16:45-18:00

The cooperation between the ballet school and the Bundesrealgymnasium with music education and associated boarding school - Vienna 3, Boerhaavegasse 15 - which has existed since 1983, guarantees an optimal school education with a school-leaving certificate. The cooperation enables completion certificate for children in the lower school in the morning and for children in the upper school in the afternoon.

The boarding school is connected to the BG & BRG Wien 3 Boerhaavegasse.

The pupils are looked after in groups according to their age and school requirements. A wide range of leisure activities (e.g. sports activities, theater and cinema visits, games evenings, discussion groups, handicrafts, music, cooking, ...) are offered as a supplement to learning support. During the weekends, the supervisors are happy to plan the free time according to the children's wishes.

Fees: 10 monthly installments of € 495 each

Parents can apply for a reduction in the fees depending on their financial situation. For further questions, please contact the boarding school directly. For children who are accommodated at the boarding school and attend an Austrian school, an application for a reduction in the childcare and accommodation fee can be submitted via the website of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research.
