Born in Berlin, SEBASTIAN WEIGLE studied Horn, Piano and Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler and became First Horn at the Staatskapelle in Berlin in 1982. In his role as First Staatskapelle Master at the Berlin State Opera 1997 to 2002 he developed an extensive repertoire, was General Music Director at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona from 2004 -2009, taking over the same role with Frankfurt Opera from season 2008/2009. In 2003, he was selected by the Opernwelt critics as Conductor of the Year. Engagements have taken him to such places as Deutsche Oper Berlin, Berlin State Opera, Munich, Dresden and Hamburg, to the Met and the opera houses of Zurich, Cincinnati, Sydney and Japan. The young conductor gave his debut performance at the Salzburg Festival in 1990. He has received invitations from orchestras such as RSO Stuttgart, Staatskapelle Berlin, Dresden and Weimar, RSO Wien, NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. He has conducted Boris Godunow, Die Zauberflöte and Fidelio at the Vienna State Opera.
