Sveva Gargiulo

Sveva Gargiulo was born in Naples and educated at the Scuola di Ballo del Teatro alla Scala and the Ballet Academy of the Wiener Staatsoper. In 2014 she became a member of the Vienna State Ballet, in 2017 she was appointed demi-soloist.

Her versatile repertoire comprises Sarazenen-Duo in Rudolf Nureyev’s »Raymonda«, soloist in the Neapolitan and Hungarian dance in Nureyev’s »Swan Lake«, Luisa and Spanish dance (soloist) in Nureyev’s »The Nutcracker«, Moyna in Elena Tschernischova’s »Giselle«, countrywoman and Nubian slave (soloist) in Manuel Legris’ »Sylvia«, Swanilda's friend and spinner in Pierre Lacotte’s »Coppélia«, Zulméa and Odaliske in Manuel Legris’ »Le Corsaire« and Eva in Attila Bakó’s »The Fall«. Furthermore, she danced, among others, roles in works by George Balanchine such as »Rubies« in »Jewels«, Frederick Ashton’s »La Fille mal gardée«, Rudolf Nureyev’s »Don Quixote«, Jerome Robbins’ »The Four Seasons« and »The Concert«, Trevor Hayden’s »Double Date«, Stephan Thoss’ »Bluebeard's Secret«, Alexander Ekman’s »Cacti«, Kenneth MacMillan’s »Mayerling« and »Concerto«, John Cranko’s »Onegin«, Michael Corder’s »The Snow Queen«, Boris Eifman’s »Giselle Rouge«, Edwaard Liang’s »Murmuration«, John Neumeier’s »Le Sacre« and »Verklungene Feste«, András Lukács’ »Movements to Stravinsky«, Patrick de Bana’s »Marie Antoinette«, Wayne McGregor’s »EDEN | EDEN«, Edward Clug’s »Peer Gynt«, William Forsythe’s »Artifact Suite«, Jiří Kylián’s »Symphony of Psalms« Nacho Duato's »White Darkness«, Lucinda Child's »Concerto«, Merce Cunningham's »Duets« and in world premeires such as Trevor Hayden's »Double Date«, Daniel Proietto's »Blanc«, Eno Peci's »Petruschka«, Andrey Kaydanovskiy's »The Firebird« and »lux umbra«, Marco Goecke's »Fly Paper Bird« as well as Annen-Polka in Martin Schläpfer's »Marsch, Walzer, Polka«, two pairs in his »The Sleeping Beauty« and his solo »Lontano«.
