Jochen Schmeckenbecher

JOCHEN SCHMECKENBECHER comes from Hochenheim and studied under Kurt Moll at the Music School in Cologne. After initial engagements at the Theater Hagen and the Komischen Oper Berlin, he has been a guest at the leading international opera stages. His focus lies with german speaking repertoire, and has sung key roles like Alberich, Amfortas and Klingsor, Kurwenal, Musiklehrer, Faninal, Peter Besenbinder, Pizarro and Wozzeck at the Staatsopern Berlin, Dresden, Hamburg and Stuttgart, the Opera National de Paris, the Met NY, the Milan Scala, the Liceu Barcelona, the Teatro Real Madrid as well as the opera houses in Essen, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Lyon, San Francisco and Turin. Furthermore, he has been a guest as Kolenaty in Paris and the Salzburg Festival, Marquis de la Force at the Theater an der Wien and the Staatsoper Munich and the Bösewichter at the Wiener Volksoper. Plans include Gurre-Lieder in Paris, Alberich in Frankfurt and at the Staatsoper Berlin as well as productions at the ROH Covent Garden, the Opera de Lyon and in Hamburg. After his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper as the Musiklehrer in autumn 2011, he also sang Kurwenal, Alberich, Sprecher, Faninal, Pizarro and Frank here.
