GENIA KÜHMEIER from Salzburg, studied in the Mozarteum and entered the ensemble of the Wiener staatsoper as a Karajan-Scholar. She caused a stir there in her debut as Pamina (Die Zauberflöte). Her international career began in the Milan Scala as Diane in Iphigénie en Aulide at the 2002 Season opening. In 2004, Riccardo Muti invited her again for Salieri’s L’europa riconosciuta. At the Salzburg Festival in 2005 and 2006, she sang Pamina under Riccardo Muti, in 2010 Gluck’s Orfeo and in 2011 Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro. Further succeses were Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) under Christian Thielemann, Ilia (Idomeneo) in the Staatsoper production at the Theater an der Wien, La finta giardiniera at the Royal Opera House in London, Pamina at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Milan Scala, as well as in 2012 Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) in the Scala. In the past few years she has sung among others Zdenka in Dresden and the Bastille in Paris, Contessa d’Almaviva in Paris, Munich, Salzburg, Micaëla at the Easter- and Summer Festivals in Salzburg and in Paris and Pamina in Munich. With her wide-ranging concert repertoire, she is a highly sought after concert singer.
