Stuart Skelton

Stuart Skelton is one of the finest heldentenors on the stage today, critically acclaimed for his outstanding musicianship, tonal beauty, and intensely dramatic portrayals. Recent highlights include new productions of Tristan und Isolde at the Metropolitan Opera, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, and English National Opera, and the title roles of Peter Grimes and Parsifal at the Bayerische Staatsoper. Widely esteemed as one of the eminent Siegmunds of the day, he has performed Die Walküre at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Teatro Real, Budapest’s Palace of the Arts, and in concert with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Symphonieorchester des  Bayerischen Rundfunks among many others. A robust concert calendar has included performances with Esa-Pekka Salonen and The MET Orchestra, with Sir Simon Rattle and both the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and London Symphony Orchestra, Sir Antonio Pappano and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Franz Welser-Möst and the Cleveland Orchestra, Sir Andrew Davis and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Edward Gardner and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and Sakari Oramo and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Stuart Skelton’s expansive discography includes the title role of Peter Grimes, Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass, and Schoenberg’s Gurre-Lieder with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Korngold’s Abschiedslieder, Lehár’s Fieber, and Fried’s Verklärte Nacht with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Die Walküre with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Tristan und Isolde with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, multiple recordings of Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, and Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex with the London Symphony Orchestra. At Vienna State Opera, he has so far sung Erik, Florestan and Siegmund.
