Markus Werba

The baritone Markus Werba studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and at the University of Music in Klagenfurt (Austria). From 1998 to 2000 he was a member of the ensemble at the Vienna Volksoper. He appears at prestigious venues such as the Vienna, Bavarian, and Berlin State Operas, Teatro La Fenice in Venice (Italy), Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (Spain), Los Angeles Opera (USA), Paris Opéra (France), the Metropolitan Opera in New York (USA), Suntory Hall in Tokyo (Japan), Festspielhaus Baden-Baden (Germany), and the Salzburg Festival.

Recent highlights include Die Fledermaus in Beijing (China), Don Giovanni at the Bellini Theatre in Catania (Italy), Happy End at La Scala in Milan, Le nozze di Figaro at the Semperoper in Dresden (Germany), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) and L’Heure espagnole at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma (Italy), the Music Teacher (Ariadne auf Naxos) at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and the Music Teacher and Eisenstein at the Maggio Musicale in Florence (Italy).

In the 2025/26 season, his engagements include Eisenstein in Liège (Belgium), Don Giovanni in Piacenza and Modena (Italy), and Conte d’Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) in Rome (Italy).

He made his debut at the Vienna State Opera in 2010 as Papageno and has since appeared there as Eisenstein, Don Giovanni, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Le nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo, and Belcore.
