The English conductor and pianist JONATHAN DARLINGTON has been the Musical Director of the Vancouver Opera for over ten years, during which time he directed everything from Mozart to Tan Dun. In terms of style, he is as well suited to the opera house as he is to the concert hall. His career regularly takes him to the most important opera companies and to the conductor’s stand of leading orchestras. Most recently, he conducted the Vienna Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Orchestre National de France, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, as well as others. As a conductor of opera, his most recent performances include Mozart’s Zauberflöte, Strauß’ Fledermaus and Orlando in Dresden, Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte in Australia, Nozze di Figaro in Stockholm, Věc Makropulos in Frankfurt, Otello, Rigoletto and Dead Man Walking in Vancouver. Future engagements include a return to Stockholm with Jenůfa, as well as performances of Il barbiere di Siviglia and Don Giovanni, which he will once again conduct at the Semper Opera House. Jonathan Darlington made his debut at the Vienna State Opera in 2014 with Puccini's Madama Butterfly.
