Marco Armiliato

Marco Armiliato comes from from Genoa and studied piano and conducting. He is unquestionably one of the most important opera conductors of our time and, accordingly, is a regular guest at the world's most prestigious opera houses. His career began with his debut at Teatro La Fenice with »Il barbiere di Siviglia,« followed by a performance at the Vienna State Opera with »Andrea Chénier« a year later. Since his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1998, he has conducted numerous works, including »Andrea Chénier,« »Anna Bolena,« »Il trovatore,« »La Bohème,« »Stiffelio,« »Madama Butterfly,« »Tosca,« »Sly,« »Aida,« »Ernani,« »Turandot,« »Rigoletto,« »Cyrano de Bergerac,« »Francesca di Rimini,« »La Fille du régiment,« »La rondine,« »La sonnambula,« and »Lucia di Lammermoor.« Recent highlights have included »Otello« at the Zurich Opera, »Madama Butterfly« in Madrid and Muscat, »Adriana Lecouvreur« at the Salzburg Festival, »Tosca« at the Bavarian State Opera, »La traviata« in Verona, »Rigoletto« at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, »La bohème,« »Turandot,« and »Macbeth« at the Metropolitan Opera, as well as concerts in Orange and Grafenegg. His upcoming engagements will take him to Zurich, Verona, Naples, Munich, and New York.

At the Vienna State Opera, he has led new productions of »Samson et Dalila« and »Il trovatore« in recent years, along with a variety of works from the Italian and French repertoire (Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Leoncavallo, Giordano, Gounod, Massenet), various galas and festive concerts, and the opening of the Vienna Opera Ball in 2019.
