Guillermo García Calvo
GUILLERMO GARCÍA CALVO was born in Madrid in 1978 and began his music studies at the age of seven. He completed his studies at the University of Music in Vienna. In March 2003 he made his debut as opera conductor with Hänsel und Gretel at the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn. In 2007 he was musical assistant of Christian Thielemann in the restaging of the Ring in Bayreuth. In 2009 he conducted the premiere of La cenerentola at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he has since conducted performances of Il barbiere di Siviglia, Lucia di Lammermoor, Carmen, Don Giovanni and Les Pêcheurs de perles concert premiere. Since November 2003 he is closely linked to the Wiener Staatsoper, where he worked as solo répétiteur and also conducted opera performances (e.g. the premiere of Verdi´s Macbeth), children´s operas as well as ballet evenings. At the Aalto-Theater Essen he has recently directed a new production of L’elisir d’amore, as well as several performances of I puritani, Nabucco and La Bohème. In January 2011 Guillermo Garcia Calvo made his opera debut in Spain with the premiere of Tristan und Isolde at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo – his performance critically acclaimed by both the press and the audience. He also conducted the Ring des Nibelungen at this theatre starting September 2013 and Salome in Las Palmas und Hänsel und Gretel in Chemnitz.
