JONAS KAUFMASS was born in Munich and counts as one of the most highly in demand tenors. He studied singing in Munich and completed masterclasses with James King, Hans Hotter and Josef Metternich. He began his career in 1994 at the Staatstheater Saarbrücken und soon after recieved invitations to the Hamburg Staatsoper, to Stuttgart, Chicago, Paris, the Scala, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Bayerische and Berliner Staatsoper, to Edinburgh, Tokyo, London, Luzern, Venice, Zurich and Brussels. In 1999, Jonas Kaufmann gave his debut at the Salzburg Festival in Busonis Doktor Faustus. Aside from this role, he was also succesful as Andrea Chenier, Don Alvaro, Alfredo (La traviata), Tamino (Zauberflöte), Faust (La Damnation de Faust), Parsifal, Stolzing (Meistersinger), Max (Freischütz), Radames, Don Jose (Carmen), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Cavaradossi (Tosca), Don Carlo, Roméo (Roméo et Juliette), Florestan (Fidelio) and Des Grieux (Manon). At the Wiener Staatsoper, he gave his debut in 2006 as Tamino and also sang here among others Des Grieux (Manon), Cavaradossi, Dick Johnson and the leading role in Werther, Faust and Parsifal.
