Camilla Nylund

Camilla Nylund was born in Vaasa (Finland), and studied first with Eva Illes before attending the Opera and Lieder Class at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Mozarteum Salzburg. She was awarded the Lilli Lehmann Medal by the International Mozarteum Foundation in December 1995 for her outstanding performance. She began her career with full-time contracts at Hanover and the Semperoper in Dresden, but she quickly became a increasingly sought-after guest at leading opera houses. Engagements have taken her to Venice, Hamburg, Zurich, Vienna, Milan, Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Valencia, Salzburg, Tokyo, London, Bayreuth, Barcelona and Chicago. Among other roles, she sang the Countess (Capriccio), Eva (The Mastersingers of Nuremberg), Tatiana (Eugene Onegin), Leonore (Fidelio), the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Arabella, Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Rusalka, Sieglinde (Die Walküre), Elsa (Lohengrin), Salome, Elisabeth (Tannhäuser), the Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier), Elisabetta (Don Carlo), Ariadne, Senta (Der fliegende Holländer), Agathe (Der Freischütz) and Marie (Wozzeck). At the Wiener Staatsoper she has sung many of her roles, including Sieglinde, the Marschallin, Salome, Arabella, Elsa, Agathe, Ariadne, Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Rusalka, Leonore, Elsa and Elisabeth. Camilla Nylund had a spectacular success in May/June 2019 as the Empress in the Wiener Staatsoper’s Die Frau ohne Schatten with Christian Thielemann as musical director. She was awarded the professional status of Austrian Kammersängerin during this series of performances. Recently she sang Elsa in Berlin, Arabella and Eva in Dresden, Rusalka and Ariadne in Paris, Sieglinde in Budapest, Elsa and Eva in Bayreuth, Arabella in Zurich, the Marschallin at the Metropolitan Opera New York and in Berlin, and Ariadne in Hamburg.
