Oliver Kern

Trained by Wan Ing Ong, Rudolf Buchbinder and Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, pianist Oliver Kern performs in renowned concert halls such as the Musikverein and Konzerthaus Vienna, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Sala Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Musikhalle Hamburg, Munichʼs Herkulessaal, Stuttgartʼs Liederhalle, the Konzerthaus Berlin, Frankfurtʼs Kaisersaal, the Salle Gaveau in Paris, the Saitama Arts Theatre Tokyo, the Seoul Arts Center and the Century Hall Beijing. The interpretation of works by Johannes Brahmsʼ is particularly close to his heart. His numerous awards include 2nd prize (no first prize was awarded) at the ARD Competition in Munich in 1999 and 1st prize at the International Beethoven Competition in Vienna in 2001.
Oliver Kern has more than 30 piano concertos in his repertoire and performs as a soloist with orchestras such as the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the China National Symphony Orchestra, the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Korean National Symphony Orchestra and the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra.
Productions and concert recordings for various radio stations document the broad spectrum of his activities between Bach and Lachenmann, which also includes the field of chamber music. His releases include the double CD Inspired by Bach, released by Nimbus Records together with Julius Berger. After working as a professor of piano at the College for Music at Hanyang University Seoul and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, Oliver Kern has been a professor of piano at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt since 2012.
Oliver Kern makes his house debut at the Vienna State Opera with the piano part in John Neumeierʼs The Lady of the Camellias, set to works by Chopin.
