Dan Paul Dumitrescu

The bass Dan Paul Dumitrescu was born in Bucharest. He first studied clarinet, then singing at the Music Academy in Bucharest. At the same time he attended and graduated the International Academy of Opera in Verona. Immediately after completing his singing studies at the Music Academy Bucharest he was engaged to the Bucharest Opera. The year 1997 meant winning The Grand Award of Budapest at the International Canto from Budapest. It was also the start of his international career. He has been a guest on important stages such as the Scala, Arena di Verona, Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall, Paris, Aix-en-Provence, Geneva, the Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Berlin, Munich, Dusseldorf, Budapest, Istanbul, Tokyo, the New Israeli Opera. In 2000 he made his debut at the Vienna State Opera and has been a member of the company since September 2001. The first important role after his debut at Vienna State Opera was Walter Furst (»Guillame Tell«) with Thomas Hampson. He was invited to be part of important projects that took place at: Golden Hall at Musikverein and Bruckner Hall - Linz (Oratory of »Jeanne d’Arc au Bûcher« by Honegger), Carinthian Summer Festival in Ossiah (»Jesu Hochzeit« by Gottfried von Einem ), Konzerthaus Wien (»La Wally« and »I due foscari«) and Stadttheater Klagenfurt (»Boris Gudunov«). Between 2002-2004 he was invited at the Salzburg Festival for »The Magic Flute«, « »Les Contes d’Hoffmann« and »I Capuletti e i Montecchi«. His repertoire includes more than 80 bass roles, such as Sarastro (»The Magic Flute«), Pimen (»Boris Godunov«), Gremin (»Eugene Onegin«), Prince Ivan Khovansky (»Khovanshchina«), Cardinal Brogni (»La Juive«), Enrico VIII (»Anna Bolena«), Ramfis (»Aida«), Pistola (»Falstaff«), Sparafucile (»Rigoletto«), Banquo (»Macbeth«), Raimondo (»Lucia di Lammermoor«), Oroveso (»Norma«), Graf Des Grieux (»Manon«), Balthazar (»La Favorite«), Colline (»La Bohème«), Timur (»Turandot«), Pietro (»Simon Boccanegra«), Grenvil (»La traviata«), Count Rodolfo (»La sonnambula«), Monk and Grand Inquisitor (»Don Carlos« Italian and French version), Stefano (»The Tempest«), Kulygin (»Tri Sestri«), Peneios (»Daphne«), Rochefort (»Anna Bolena«). He was requested to be part of the projects for children: since 2016, he is in the cast of »Die Zauberflöte für Kinder«, as Sarastro and is The King in »Cinderella« by Alma Deutscher and Der König in »Was ist los bei den Enakos?« by Elisabeth Naske, the recordings of the two works being written on DVD.
