Matthew Polenzani

American tenor Matthew Polenzani is one of the most gifted and distinguished lyric tenors of his generation. His elegant musicianship, innate sense of style, dramatic commitment, and timeless artistry have established his continued presence at leading operatic, concert, and recital venues worldwide. Matthew Polenzani begins the 2023/24 season starring as Tito in Mozart's masterpiece La Clemenza di Tito at the Vienna State Opera. He debuts the role of Orombello in a concert performance of Bellini's Beatrice di Tenda at Teatro di San Carlo, followed by appearances at the Metropolitan Opera as Rodolfo in La Bohème and Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, a role he also sings at Teatro Real in Madrid. At Hamburg State Opera he stars as Florestan in Beethoven's Fidelio, and in the spring he appears as Giasone in  Cherubini's rarely performed masterpiece Medea at the Canadian Opera Company. Polenzani's concert appearances include Verdi's Requiem at the Metropolitan Opera under the baton of M° Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Handel's Messiah with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra led by Sir Andrew Davis, as well as solo recitals with M° Julius Drake with Philadelphia Chamber Music Society and Cleveland Chamber Music Society. Matthew Polenzani was the recipient of the 2004 Richard Tucker Award, The Metropolitan Opera's 2008 Beverly Sills Artist Award, and a 2017 Opera News Award. An avid golfer, he makes his home in suburban New York with his wife, mezzo-soprano Rosa Maria Pascarella, and their three sons.
