Pavel Petrov

Belarusian tenor Pavel Petrov is winner of the First Prize and the Don Plácido Domingo Ferrer Prize of Zarzuela of Operalia 2018, The World Opera Competition, and finalist of the Belvedere and Queen Sonja International Music competitions. Pavel’s forthcoming engagements include Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) for Wiener Staatsoper and Opéra national de Paris, Opéra de Lausanne and Oper Graz. Engagements elsewhere have included his Wiener Staatsoper debut as Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore) and Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) Opéra national de Paris and Oper Graz; Lensky (Eugene Onegin) for Stadttheater Klagenfurt and Opera Lausanne; Duca (Rigoletto) for Opera Hong Kong and Bregenzer Festspiele, Alfredo (La traviata) for Savonlinna Festival. Pong (Turandot) for his house debut at the Royal Opera House; role and house debut as Alfredo (La traviata) at Arena di Verona, Opera Australia as Ferrando (Così fan tutte), debut at the Salzburg Festival as Chaplitsky (Pique Dame), Alfredo and Lensky and for Bucharest National Opera and Alfredo for the Mikhailovsky Theatre. Pavel was a member of the ensemble at Oper Graz, where his roles have included Alfredo La traviata, Lensky, Cavaliere Belfiore (Il viaggio a Reims), Prunier (La rondine), and Rodolfo (La bohème).
Prior to his move to Graz for the 2016/17 season, Pavel was from 2012–16 a member of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus, where his roles included Lensky and Triquet (Eugene Onegin), Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), Alfredo, Jontek (Halka), Tsar Berendey (The Snow Maiden) and Lukov (The Tsar’s Bride). During the 2015/16 season Pavel was also a member of the International Opera Studio of Zürich Opera House, where his roles included Licone (Orlando paladino), Coryphée (Le Comte Ory) and Pong (Turandot) and Erster Geharnischter (Die Zauberflöte).
Pavel graduated from the Belarusian State Academy of Music and studied under Piotr Ridiger. He has participated in masterclasses with Dmitry Vdovin, Adrian Kelly, Hedwig Fassbender and Fabio Luisi, among others. His awards also include first prize at the International Maria Bieşu Singing Competition and second prizes at the Competizione dell’Opera, Tashkent, the Muslim Magomaev International Vocalists Contest and the Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition.
