Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke

The Salzburg born WOLFGANG ABLINGER-SPERRHACKE is considered one of the most sought after and important character tenors of the Opera world. He studied in the Wiener Musikhochschule. In 1993, he came as an ensemble member to the Landestheater in Linz, and 2 years later to the Theater Basel, and finally at the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich. In 1997, he celebrated his debut at the Paris National Opera which was at the time the place for young singers to develop their careers. Recently, he celebrated large success as Mime in the youngest production of the Ring. The same applies for the Glyndebourne Festival where he has been a regular guest since his debut there in 1999, and has since sung Hexe (Hänsel und Gretel), Tanzmeister and Podestà (La finta giardiniera). In the last ten years, the Bavarian State Opera became another artistic home. He has also sung the Mime in Vienna, Munich, Berlin, at La Scala in Milan, in Venice, Madrid, Toulouse, Amsterdam, Toronto and Tokyo, and soon in Zurich and again in Milan. Other important roles in his repertoire include Loge, Hauptmann (Wozzeck), Valzacchi (including at the New York Met, Baden Baden), Offenbach's Ritter Blaubart (including his debut at the Bregenz Festival), Herodes. He debuted with Pirzel at the Salzburg Festival (Die Soldaten) and with Iwan at the ROH Covent Garden (The nose). In 2021 he was appointed Bavarian Kammersänger.
