Robert Eisenstein was born in Vienna and has been working at the Vienna State Opera since 1996. In his career as a lighting engineer, programmer and, since 2014, lighting inspector for the technical direction of Vienna State Opera, he has collaborated in more than 200 opera, ballet and children’s opera productions. In 2007, he passed the lighting master’s exam at the »Österreichische Theatertechnische Gesellschaft«. From 1998 to 2013 he was also a member of the lighting team at the Seefestspiele Mörbisch. In addition to overseeing in-house productions, since 2015 Robert Eisenstein has been responsible for the lighting realisation of external events at the Vienna State Opera. These included the action film »Mission Impossible 5«, the Vienna Jazz Festival and concerts by the Vienna Mozart Orchestra, amongst others. He gained international experience on guest performances and tours as well as through the creation of light designs for the Japanese television NHK in the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan concert hall, for the Royal Opera House Muscat in Oman, the Hamburg State Opera or the Centre Cultural Terrassa in Barcelona or the Slovakian National Theatre. The light design for »Sinfonie Nr. 15« was Robert Eisenstein’s first collaboration with choreographer Martin Schläpfer, followed by »Marsch, Walzer, Polka« (2021). In the 2022/23 season, he will create the light design for Heinz Spoerli's »Goldberg-Variationen«.
