Javier González Cabrera

Javier González Cabrera was born in Granada and gained first experiences in Spanish dance as a child. He started his ballet education in 2012 at the Conservatorio Profesional de Danza Reina Sofía in Granada with Mar Andrés, Adriana Montalvo and Anna Novas, among others. As a finalist at the Ribarroja del Tura International Dance Competition and the Castellón National Dance Competition, he won in 2016 scholarships for the Escuela Victor Ullate and the John Cranko Schule Stuttgart. He continued his training at the latter from 2017 to 2019 under the direction of Tadeusz Matacz. His first engagement led him to the Hungarian National Ballet where he appeared in works such »Episode 31« by Alexander Ekman, »Chroma« by Wayne McGregor as well as in »The Nutcracker«, »Giselle« and »La Fille mal gardée«. Since the 2020/21 season, Javier González Cabrera is a member of the Corps de ballet of the Vienna State Ballet. His most significant role to date was Alain in Frederick Ashton's »La Fille mal gardée«. Furthermore, he danced in George Balanchine's »Jewels«, John Cranko's »Onegin«, Merce Cunningham's »Duets«, Jerome Robbins' »Glass Pieces« and »The Concert«, Mark Morris' »Beaux« as well as in Martin Schläpfer's world premieres of »4«, »Symphonie Nr. 15«, »In Sonne verwandelt«, »Die Jahreszeiten« and »The Sleeping Beauty«, where he interpreted the role of a page. For »Platform Choreography« of the Vienna State Ballet in June 2022, he created his first own choreography with »Etéreo«.
