Catherine Voeffray completed her training as a styler at the Zurich Fashion Design School and initially worked as a freelancer. In 1993 she was hired to the Theater Bern, where she became deputy head of the costume department in 1997. She designed costumes for numerous drama and opera productions, and also worked for the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Teatro del Giglio Lucca. A close collaboration connects her since many years with the choreographer Stijn Celis for ballet productions with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens Montréal, the Cullberg Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater, the Cedar Lake Dance Company New York, the ballet of the Semperoper Dresden, Aalto Ballett Essen and the ballet of the Saarbrücken State Theater among others. For Martin Schläpfer, Catherine Voeffray has created costumes already for the Bern Ballet. This was followed by numerous productions for ballettmainz, including »Kunst der Fuge«, »ein Wald, ein See«, »3« and »Sinfonien«, as well as for the Ballett am Rhein. The main highlights of these are »Ein Deutsches Requiem« and »Nacht umstellt«. For the Ballett am Rhein, Catherine Voeffray also worked with the choreographer Martin Chaix and reconstructed Rei Kawakubo’s costumes for Merce Cunningham’s »Scenario«.
