Federica Lombardi
Federica Lombardi is regarded as one of the most sought-after sopranos of her generation, particularly for the major roles in the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. At the beginning of the 2024/25 season, she made her house debut at the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro. She will return to the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Countess Almaviva and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte. Her future plans include Verdi’s Luisa Miller at the Opera of Valencia and Amelia (Simon Boccanegra) in Amsterdam.
Significant milestones in her career include Mimì in La bohème in New York and Valencia, Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) in New York, and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) in Vienna, Hamburg, Madrid, and at the Salzburg Festival. In 2022, she made her debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London as Countess Almaviva, a role she has also performed at the state operas in Munich and Berlin. Further highlights include her performances as Elettra in Idomeneo in New York and at La Scala in Milan, Fiordiligi at the Berlin State Opera, in Turin, Valencia, and Rome, as well as the title role in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena at La Scala and the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
In 2020, she recorded her first Desdemona in Otello under Antonio Pappano with Jonas Kaufmann for Sony Classical. In 2022, she portrayed Mimì in the film version of La bohème, a production by Rai Cultura in collaboration with the Rome Opera. Federica Lombardi is also in high demand as a concert singer. She has performed Mozart’s Requiem in Rome, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in Naples and Venice, Verdi’s Requiem in Amsterdam and Zurich, and at the Verdi Festival in Parma.
In 2019, she was awarded the Franco Abbiati Prize by the Association of Italian Music Critics as Best Singer for her outstanding interpretations of Mozart roles on Italy’s major stages. She made her debut at the Vienna State Opera in 2019 as Donna Elvira and has also performed Fiordiligi, Donna Anna, Vitellia, Countess Almaviva, and Amelia there. In February 2025, she will take on the title role in the new production of Norma.
