Andrés Garcia Torres

The Spanish Andrés Garcia Torres was born in Salamanca and started his education at the age of eight at the Royal Conservatory of Dance Mariemma in Madrid. At 15 he moved to Vienna to continue his studies at the Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera. After his graduation he became a member of the Vienna State Ballet in 2014. His most important roles include Romeo in Davide Bombana’s »Roméo et Juliette«, the title role in Thierry Malandain’s »Don Juan«, the Prince in Malandain’s »Cendrillon«, Widow Simone in Frederick Ashton's »La Fille mal gardée«, Lorenzo in Rudolf Nureyevʼs »Don Quixote«, Coppélius in Pierre Lacottes »Coppélia«, the tomcat in Martin Schläpfer’s »The Sleeping Beauty«, Faun in Boris Nebyla’s »Nachmittag eines Fauns«, Chinese Dance in Rudolf Nureyev’s »The Nutcracker« as well as roles in Nureyev’s »Raymonda« and »Swan Lake«, Wayne McGregor’s  »EDEN|EDEN«, Andrey Kaydanovskiy's world premiere »lux umbra«, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's »Große Fuge«, Merce Cunningham's »Duets«, Paul Taylorʼs »Promethean Fire« and Ohad Naharinʼs »Tabula Rasa«. Furthermore, he danced in works by George Balanchine, Edward Clug, John Cranko, William Forsythe, Manuel Legris, John Neumeier, Elena Tchernichova and Martin Schläpfer such as »Annen-Polka« in »Marsch, Walzer, Polka« and Friend of the fairy Coulante in »The Sleeping Beauty«.
For »Young Choreographers 2017« of the Ballettclub Wiener Staatsoper & Volksoper he created his first choreography »An die ferne Geliebte« (music: Ludwig van Beethoven).
